A New York University student was randomly stabbed in a broad-daylight attack Thursday by a screaming assailant who ran off, cops and sources said.

The 20-year-old film student, who wanted to only be identified by his first name, Nicolo, was on a lunch break between classes and walking southbound on Lafayette Street near East 4th Street – outside the 404 Fitness building – when he was knifed in the back, police said.

“I just walked by him… I was on the phone,” Nicolo told The Post Friday. “And then I felt like something right in my back and I turned around and I see him holding something, like how you would hold a knife to stab someone, but it looked like a ballpoint pen.”

4.  Shoplifter shoots and  kills CVS store manager  Sept 15, 2023

A CVS store manager was killed on the job by a man suspected of shoplifting, police say — the latest example of a US retail theft epidemic that is becoming increasingly deadly.  Michael Jacobs, 49 — an operations manager at CVS Pharmacy in Mesa, Ariz., where he had worked for the past 20-plus years — was shot and killed allegedly by Jared Sevey in the evening hours of Sept. 7, according to KKTV 11 News.  Sevey, 39, was reportedly inside the Arizona CVS location earlier that day, arguing with Jacobs about shoplifting, KKTV reported. After the conflict, Sevey went home to get a gun. Sevey admitted to police that he shot Jacobs because he was “tired of being bullied,” and “this was the last straw,” according to the news outlet.  He also told officers, “I’m guilty,” “I planned it,” and “I bet he ain’t talking [expletive] no more,” court documents stated.

3.  5 years probation for a dentist who did not summon help when child was not responding -- only five years probation  Sept 15, 2023

A former Texas dentist who left a 4-year-old girl with irreversible brain damage from a botched surgery has walked away with just five years of probation — despite prosecutors seeking 20 years in prison.

Bethaniel Jefferson failed to call 911 for five hours as little Nevaeh Hall’s oxygen levels plunged seven years ago — leaving the now-11-year-old girl needing around-the-clock care and still unable to see, speak, walk or eat on her own.  Her attorney, John Kovach, readily admitted Jefferson “screwed up” as she was convicted Wednesday in Houston of reckless injury to a child by omission.  Prosecutors sought the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison — and the jury initially sentenced her to 10 years, according to KHOU11.  However, it also recommended community supervision, which allowed the judge on Thursday to sentence Jefferson to just five years of probation, the Houston Chronicle said.

“I don’t think justice was served,” Assistant District Attorney Gilbert Sawtelle complained to the paper.  he trial heard how the young girl was supposed to have a routine procedure for a decayed tooth, but was left sedated for hours despite seizing at least three times.

Jefferson’s dental license was revoked just months after the botched procedure in January 2016.

Hall’s family was also awarded a $95.5 million settlement in a civil lawsuit last year, but a plaintiff’s attorney said Jefferson has no money to pay the damages.

In July, Alvin Wyatt was found guilty of the murder of 10-year-old Micah Tennant, who was shot during a football game at Pleasantville High School in 2019.  Officials say the 35-year-old fired a gun eight times into the bleachers of the crowded football game. One of the bullets struck the boy in the neck as he watched the game with his mom and sister. The boy underwent multiple surgeries, but died several days after the shooting.   Two other victims, ages 15 and 31, were also struck by gunfire that night. The 31-year-old was left permanently confinement to a wheelchair.

On Tuesday, Wyatt was sentenced to 70 years in New Jersey State Prison for murder, attempted murder and related charges.
