Sources of Wealth
The massive wealth gap between these leaders and the impoverished population of the Gaza Strip stems from an array of diversified, opaque revenue streams:
  • International Investment Portfolio: Hamas operates a secretive corporate network estimated at roughly $500 million to $1 billion. This includes active stakes in real estate, construction, and finance companies across Turkey, the UAE, Algeria, and Sudan.
  • Domestic Extortion and Taxation: After seizing control of Gaza in 2007, Hamas began strictly taxing local businesses, basic commercial transactions, and goods moving through border entry points, netting between $300 million and $450 million annually.
  • State-Sponsored Funding: The group receives roughly $100 million annually from Iran for military capabilities, alongside historical financial channels via private donors based in the Gulf.
  • Aid Diversion: Intelligence agencies and humanitarian groups note that substantial sums intended for civil infrastructure, fuel, and community services have historically been skimmed or siphoned off by the leadership to support their political apparatus and private lifestyles
