Making errors is part of the human condition, and fortunately many errors can be acknowleged and rectified. But making up nonsense reasons for any errors may backfire and throw doubt on the sincerity of an apology.
About a week ago, the owners of the Hilda and Jesse restaurant in San Francisco asked three police officers to leave and then later offered an apology.
The stated reason for kicking the officers out was that "The presence of the [officers'] weapons made us feel uncomfortable." Further the owners said that the decision was not a political statement but instead they did "what we thought was best for our staff." No explanation was offered for why kicking the officers out was best for their staff a week ago but not best for their staff this week. What has changed?
What has changed is negative restaurant reviews. Purely and simply the owners decided that the costs of their woke political statement were higher than they were willing to pay. But they didn't want to admit that their principles were for sale so they stated that it was best for their staff to throw out the officers a week ago but not now. Utter nonsense.
But in fact it will probably turn out very well for Hilda and Jesse. San Franciscians consistently vote for mayors and DAs who favor doing drugs & pooping on the street and who prosecute only pronoun misuse. So San Franscians will probably step carefully to avoid the poop and will applaud the dash and grabbers on the way to thank Hilda for protecting them from police officers.
Some San Franciscans decided that the filth, open-air drug use, and crime are not to their tastes and have moved to cities such as Austin, TX. Failing to realize that their previous voting habits caused the problems, they support the same types of politicians, and now Austin has become problematic. Of course, the SF refugees live away from downtown Austin and so far have escaped the worst results of their voting.
